Lac Chauvet is a remarkable volcanic lake nestled at an altitude of 1,167 meters in the heart of the Massif Central. Of volcanic origin, it was formed around 150,000 years ago in a volcanic crater, also known as a maar. With a surface area of around 30 hectares, the lake is shallow, but stands out for its crystal-clear waters, which testify to the purity of its environment.
